Money Monday: Saving On Wedding Flowers
Stop to smell the roses, just not the out-of-season ones! In this week’s Money Monday, we’re talking about, you guessed it, wedding flowers. In the grand scheme of wedding planning, the flowers might seem like a small element to worry about. But they can run up your budget by hundreds of dollars. On average, wedding flowers will cost you around $2,000, but that number can increase depending on the type of flower and how many you’re asking for. Be smart about the way you choose your flowers and you can easily cut your flower budget by a few hundred dollars. Here are a few of the ways you can save money on your wedding floral arrangements!
Shop In Season & Locally
Determine what flowers are in season at the time of your wedding and try to choose most or all of your flowers from those options. Out-of-season flowers will increase the price of your overall cost because they are harder to obtain during the off-season. Also, try to shop locally so you can cut transportation costs as well. There are year-round flowers, like garden roses and orchids, that you can order to mix in with an in-season flower if you want a more diverse arrangement.
Give Your Florist A Budget
Before you even start to look at your flower options, make sure you communicate with your florist about your budget. This way, they can give you suggestions based on what is in your price range. It will make choosing flowers easier since you won’t have to worry about falling in love with an arrangement that you can’t afford. At the very least, you will be going in with open eyes about whether you can afford to choose one or two out-of-season flowers if they catch your eye.
Choose A Few Types
Don’t go overboard with your floral arrangements. Stick to two or three types of flowers you feel will match up with your overall wedding theme. This will allow your florist to buy in bulk, which will ultimately give you a lower price. If you’re worried about your arrangements not looking full, you can opt for flowers that tend to have larger blooms or consider adding low-cost fillers, like baby’s breath or eucalyptus, to fill up the space.
