6 Wedding Trends That Will Be Popular in 2020

With the arrival of a new year (and a new decade!) comes a fresh set of wedding trends, whether it’s for the wedding itself, engagement rings, wedding gowns, or even honeymoon destinations. In this season of weddings, personalization is the top priority. Tradition is being thrown out the window, with more unique and modern trends taking their place. More and more couples want to create a wedding experience that is inclusive of all their guests and cultivates an environment that is telling of their personalities. The little details are the most important decisions and are what make a wedding tailored to your story as a couple. If you’re looking for some wedding inspiration, we’ve listed six of the wedding trends you should be looking out for in 2020!

Multi-Purpose Florals

Who says flowers can only be in the bouquets and centerpieces? In 2020 florals are taking on a larger role in wedding decor. They are being used for floral block walls at ceremonies and receptions or are being hung from the ceiling like chandeliers. They’re even making their way into the menus with edible flowers being used in drinks or artfully placed on top of desserts.

Customizable Menus

Dietary options are so diverse these days, from eating anything and everything to gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan. It’s difficult to create a one-option menu that will be appealing to every guest, which is why a lot of couples are choosing to have customizable menus at their weddings. Offering a variety of cuisines and drinks (having delicious, non-alcoholic beverages are important too!) shows consideration to guests and gives them the freedom to enjoy the cuisines they desire.

Statement Lighting

Just settling for the lighting that the venue offers? Not anymore. Couples are now choosing to bring in specific lighting to set the mood for their reception. Do you want a romantic and intimate reception? Add some fairy lights or eat by candlelight (hanging lanterns are also a great alternative). Want to transform your reception space from dinner into a dance party? Incorporate an LED bar or color-blocked lighting.

Artful Tables

Round or elongated tables? That’s the age-old question when it comes to reception seating. But, in 2020, couples will be opting for more artful table arrangements. Winding your tables, creating a snake appearance, adds an extra element to your reception if you don’t want to include a lot of decor. If you don’t have room to snake your seating, you can still put tables together to create a fun design or mix table shapes.

Interactive Food and Drink Stations

Receptions are moving away from scheduled courses and sipping drinks given to you by a bartender. Self-service refreshment stations, whether it’s a signature cocktail or just lemon-infused water, are showing up at weddings either as a wall-mounted dispenser or a pour station. Food is also making a move into self-service with displays such as donut walls and dessert umbrellas (yes, that’s actually a thing). These interactive stations give your guests something to do at the reception and it saves you some money on bartenders and waiters.

Eco-friendly weddings are becoming more common these days (you can check out our article on the topic here), and couples are making it a priority to lessen the carbon footprint their wedding leaves on the world. Whether it’s eco-conscious decor that uses recycled materials, sourcing locally-grown food, or composting flowers and food post-wedding, there are plenty of ways to decrease waste after your reception.
