7 Ideas For A Virtual Bridal Shower

No bridal shower is complete without a blinged-out “bride” sash and multiple bottles of champagne - even in the age of social distancing!  With the current state of the pandemic, many weddings have been canceled or postponed, which means your bridal shower plans might have been disrupted as well. Whether you are a bride-to-be or a bridesmaid, the thought of putting this pre-wedding festivity also on hold could be discouraging, especially if you’ve already made plans for them! Today, we are sharing seven of our ideas on how to utilize technology and some out-of-the-box thinking to keep the celebration spirit alive, and host a fun and entertaining bridal shower until we can gather in person again for the big celebration!

Pick A Platform to Gather

Whether it is Zoom, Google Meet, Facetime, Microsoft Teams, or even HouseParty, we are luckily all equipped with technology that can help us gather virtually at our fingertips. Sure, it may be unconventional and not what you had originally pictured, but celebrating remotely can solve a lot of your planning problems. Have multiple friends who live in different cities or states? Or others who have children? Hosting a virtual shower allows you to have all of your friends together without travel and babysitter stress! Select the platform of your choice and send out a nice e-invitation to make sure everyone knows where they are “going”! You can even still include details like dress code and mimosa recipes (more on this below) to keep this celebration special!

Order To-Go

Just because you’re not gathering in person doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the same food! Arrange to have brunch (or whatever you are “serving”) delivered to each of your guests! Food delivery apps like Ubereats, Doordash, Grubhub, Caviar, and more make this a very possible reality, even if you’re not all in the same city! For a more interactive and DIY option, you can have all of your guests cook their favorite breakfast recipe that has been passed down in their families to share with the group. For beverages, send your guests a signature cocktail recipe for them to make or have them whip up their favorite drink and swap recipes. If alcohol delivery services are available in your guests’ areas, consider surprising each of them with a champagne bottle that you can all open together!

Virtual Bridal Shower Games

Let the games begin! You might be in different locations, but you can still experience the friendly competition of bridal shower games. You can never go wrong with Bridal Bingo, but if you want to bring on the laughs, opt for a scavenger hunt where a selected host calls out household items that guests must run and find in their homes or purses. Instead of giving away actual prizes, consider gifting virtual gift cards for a grocery delivery service, or donate to a charity in their name.

Create A Custom Social Media Filter

One of the best parts of a bridal shower is going on social media after the fact to see all the photos and videos guests posted over the course of the event. There might not be any group photos in the mix unless you count a video chat screenshot, but you can create a personalized filter for Instagram or Snapchat for the event. This way, guests can take silly photos and videos with your filter, making it feel as if everyone is together. For some added fun, have your guests post some vintage Polaroid photos of the virtual celebration!

Host An At-Home Spa Day

A little relaxation can go a long way! If you wanted to have a more low-key bridal shower, you don’t have to go to an actual spa for some much-needed self-care. Set up a virtual spa day where all of your bridesmaids bring their favorite face masks, lip scrubs, eye masks, and nail polish to the video call. Before your shower, you can send out goodie packages to your guests that include personalized robes, sleep masks, and plush headbands.

DIY Sip and Paint

You don’t have to be a full-on artist to participate in this activity! Hosting a sip and paint night is relaxing and gives you the chance to spend hours talking to your girls while taking part in a fun activity. Send a package of art supplies and a small canvas to each of your guests ahead of time. Once everyone is on the call, share an image you want them to create or have them dream up their own wedding-related image, once everyone is finished, vote for your favorite masterpiece!

Host A Movie Night

With the creation of Netflix Party, you can now watch a movie at the same time as any of your friends. Cultivate a list of your favorite wedding movies, you can check out our post here for some suggestions, and don’t forget the popcorn! Netflix Party has a chat feature or if you want to see everyone’s reaction and have a flowing chat, set up your phone or laptop with a group Facetime or Zoom.
