How to Navigate the Online Journey From Engagement to Wedding

If you’re newly engaged, the thought of planning a wedding during a global pandemic can be so overwhelming.

With limited in-person meetings and extra time at home, you may feel like all the wedding planning tasks have fallen to you and you alone. Today, we are sharing some basic tips on how to set up for this journey ahead, during this special season that we are all in, and doing things (mostly) virtually! Spoiler alert: many wedding vendors have adapted their business models to accommodate for social distancing guidelines and assisting brides and grooms virtually. So, don’t fret, you can do this!!

Make A Calendar & Set A Countdown

Creating a calendar of when you want to complete wedding tasks will help motivate you to complete them on time and give you the ability to space them out. There are many guides online on general timelines of when things should be done in the wedding planning process, so use the existing templates and customize them to fit your requirements for your big day! Once you have the general timeline, setting reminders on your phone is the easiest way to keep track of your progress. Also, consider setting a countdown to your wedding day in a place where you will see it daily, you might be thinking that would create more stress, but actually, this will give you something positive to look forward to!

Plan Virtual Appointments With Your Vendors

Research potential wedding vendors and start setting up virtual meetings with them as soon you can. The benefit of meeting and securing vendors early on in your process is that not only will you get the chance to know them and their business better, but they can help you navigate this unprecedented time. Always aim for a video chat over a phone call for more face-to-face contact since you can’t meet in person, and keep your lines of communication open. You want to ask all of the questions you have, including what would happen if you needed to potentially postpone, that way if any issues do come up, you’ll know where you stand with your vendors.

Take Virtual Venue Tours

et the location scouting begin! Just because you’re stuck at home doesn’t mean you can’t find your dream wedding location. Pictures don’t always do a venue justice, but with many venues offering virtual tours, you can see the location in real-time. Come prepared for your virtual tour just like you would for an in-person visit, having questions ready to go for the site manager. If you’re able to, discuss your wedding vision with the site manager when you set up a virtual tour so they can tailor the tour to your desires. Also, ask for linen and table setting options so you can have a fuller picture of what the venue would look like on your wedding day.

The dress of your dreams is just one click away! You can find our tips on how to search for your wedding gown during quarantine here. Browse through gowns on multiple bridal boutique websites, take a virtual style consultation, and say yes to your dress! This process might be a little different than the one you envisioned, so keep it fun by including your loved ones, whether that’s having browsing parties together, or scheduling virtual try-on parties —  just because you’re doing this from home doesn’t mean it can’t be a special experience!

Create A Day-Of Timeline

Drafting a day-of timeline will help you figure out what little details from your wedding still need to be taken care of. Whether it’s the late-night snacks for a post-dinner treat or the signature drinks at your cocktail hour, if you know what events are taking place, you can make a better plan. Your timeline doesn’t have to be fully fleshed out with exact times and locations yet, but a general outline of how you’ll move through the day from pre-ceremony to reception will help you lock down a clearer vision for the day. As more planning comes together, you can update the timeline, and that’s one less thing to do two weeks before the wedding day!

Look Into Wedding Insurance

COVID-19 has caused many couples to postpone or cancel their weddings, wedding insurance has never been more important than a time like this! Some wedding venues will offer insurance in their packaging, but from now on, many couples are going to want to purchase wedding insurance regardless. You can choose to purchase insurance as soon as you secure your venue or a month before your wedding, but truthfully the sooner the better. Purchasing cancellation coverage could protect you from losing out on your down payments in the case that any major preventative issues arise.
