5 Popular Engagement Ring Trends to Know For 2021

If you’ve been up to your eyeballs in engagement announcements … no surprise there, considering it is engagement season!

But, if we’re honest, the only thing we want to talk about when we hear of a new engagement is, of course, the ring! In 2020 we saw the resurgence of solitaire rings and the oval cut, you can check out our blog post on last year’s trends here. This year, engagement ring trends are leaning towards more personal and unique styles. Soon-to-be brides are breathing new life into older styles and popularizing some fresh, cool designs. Whether you’re planning on dropping a few hints to your partner or are working with them to pick out your ring, here are five of the engagement ring trends that will be taking over in 2021!

Two-Stone Ring

Similar to last year’s popularization of cluster and three-stone rings, in 2021, two-stone rings are the new “IT” style. As seen with Ariana Grande’s recent engagement, two-stone rings offer twice the bling for a unique design. They are also referred to as Toi et Moi rings, French for you and me, with the two stones sitting side by side, symbolizing the joining of two souls. It’s a perfect style if you want to mix and match different stones for a more personalized ring!

Rose Cut

In true throwback fashion, vintage styles are making a return this year. Rose-cut diamonds, which were popular in the 18th century, are the perfect retro style for every budget. The cut of this stone, which has a flat bottom with a dome-shaped top, resembles a rosebud making the stone appear larger than its carat size. This cut can also cause the stone to look more glassy, which is great if you're going for a more minimalist ring!

Pastel Gemstones

Gemstones are avant-garde no more! Darker stones like emerald and sapphire rings are still popular this year, but even more so are a less bold option - pastel gemstones. We’re talking light blues, pinks, greens, and yellows. These dreamy, pastel gemstones look great with gold or platinum bands and can bring a sense of color to your engagement ring without being too obvious.

Yellow Gold

Platinum and white gold have been the most popular band settings for years, but not anymore! Yellow gold is finally making its comeback in 2021. Yellow gold is more reminiscent of vintage ring styles, especially if it is paired with a yellow-gold wedding band. This band choice is versatile and can easily match with your everyday jewelry style, particularly if you’re a gold gal on the regular.

Halo Cut

It’s a solitaire setting, but with a twist! A halo cut is another budget-friendly ring style because it can make the center stone appear larger than in a traditional setting. Although this is a more classic or traditional ring style, you can still make it a bit alternative with a hidden halo cut. This cut might be even more popular than the original setting since the smaller stones placed under the center stone create a greater sparkle effect. Take it one step further by adding a gemstone or band detailing!
