5 Summer Wedding Skincare Tips

Things that remind us of summer: drives along the coast, picnics in the park, watching the sun go down - oh, and weddings!

These activities are the epitome of summer and bring out the carefree spirit in everybody. On the downside, summer does bring more blazing heat and sweat than any other season, which means the dreaded skin breakouts are a given. It can be hard to keep your skin clear and pores unclogged with the constant rotation of sunscreen and makeup products that require reapplication in hot weather. If you’re planning to get married during the summer months, you have to find a way to keep your skin calm and healthy. Below, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to gather some summer wedding skincare tips that can help you achieve GLOWING bride skin for the big day!

Stay Out of the Sun

Laying out by the pool or beach might be tempting, but try to keep out of direct sunlight as much as possible before your summer wedding. Sunburns can take up to a week to heal and then there is the peeling process. Trust us, you don’t want to have peeling shoulders on your big day. If you do spend a day outside, make sure to up your SPF to at least 50 and reapply often.

Use Oil-Free Products

Natural face oils aren’t necessarily detrimental to the health of your skin, but when they’re being produced in excess, that can cause a problem for your skin. You want to make sure to cleanse your face with a mild face wash and avoid oily products. Opt for oil-free moisturizers and serums and stick to washing your face morning and night, anything more can cause excess oil production. A little tip - keep blotting papers in your purse to get rid of excess oil while you’re on the go.

Use Your Hands to Wash Your Face

First and foremost always wash your hands (and makeup brushes) before putting them on your face. Your face will catch any bacteria that may have built up on your hands before any product application. But, you should always use your hands when applying cleanser to your face. Using a washcloth can cause a transfer of bacteria and using your hands will allow you to work the cleanser into your face much better.

Stay Hydrated

Water, water, water! Did we mention water? You want to make sure you’re staying hydrated at all times. Drinking water will help keep your body and skin feeling refreshed, you should try to drink at least eight glasses of water a day to flush all the toxins out of your body. If you think getting yourself to drink that much water a day is going to be difficult, buy a reusable water bottle you can refill throughout the day and keep with you wherever you go.

No New Products

It’s a rule of thumb that you don’t try any new products on your face before a big event and that includes your wedding. Avoid using any new products on your face at least three weeks before your wedding - that includes makeup, skincare, and hair products. Any bad reactions can take weeks to calm down and the last thing you want is a major flare-up the day before your wedding.
