What to Expect in a Virtual Style Consultation

If you’re a bride currently looking for a wedding gown, then you’ve probably noticed a lot of bridal boutiques are taking their style consultations virtual.

With many bridal shops still closed to the public, virtual style appointments are the only way that brides can continue to make progress in their wedding gown search. But, despite not being able to actually try on wedding gowns, as is the case with most wedding boutiques at this time, signing up for a virtual style consultation will make the process a bit easier for you. A virtual appointment will allow you to do it at your convenience and you can book multiple appointments a day with various bridal boutiques. What happens in a style consultation you might be thinking? You’re trying to work out what gowns you like, what silhouette works for your body, and what is realistically available in your price range. Even the most prepared bride will benefit from a style consultation. So if you’re looking for an expectation guide, we provided you with some tips below on what will happen when you chat with your preferred stylist!

Do Your Research

We’re big believers in doing your research, especially when it comes to wedding gowns. Make sure to do some simple research before phoning in or joining the Zoom for your style appointment. Take a look at your closet and determine what your style is for everyday attire and black tie events. If you usually opt for a bodycon dress, then you may prefer a mermaid silhouette or if you wear plain white t-shirts and jeans regularly, you may like gowns that have less embellishment. Often there are so many wedding gowns to choose from, so taking a second to check in on your style and what silhouettes or necklines you prefer will make the process less overwhelming for you. If you have the time, create a simple Pinterest board or Instagram saved folder where you can store any gowns you come across that catch your eye!

Set A Realistic Budget

It’s never a good idea to browse or try on gowns that are outside of your price range - and yes you can still try on gowns with some online bridal boutiques that offer at-home sample fittings if you desire that experience. You want to set a realistic budget for yourself before your first consultation - that includes accessories, undergarments, and alterations. As we’ve mentioned before, wedding attire accounts for at least 5% of your overall wedding budget, so calculate what that number is for you and try to stick to it. Let your stylist know what budget you’re working with so they can help you figure out what silhouettes or styles are available to you.

Take Notes

Likely, your first style consultation will not be your only, so make sure to take notes on everything from your stylist’s advice to preferred gown choices. Write down all of the styles that you didn’t love, as well as those you did. Also, take note of the fabrics and embellishments that you prefer so you can continue to educate yourself about your preferred style and get more specific as you continue to talk to more consultants. Make sure you take this time to ask your stylist questions and explore all of your options!
