6 Tips For Posing In Wedding Photos
Pose for the camera brides!
Wedding photos can be stressful if you’re constantly thinking about getting the perfect shot. As most people aren’t accustomed to standing in front of a camera, posing for hours on end, it can be daunting trying to get frame-worthy shots on your big day. The trick to posing for wedding photos is to try and not pose at all. The more natural you “pose” or interact with your partner in front of the camera, the better. It will create a more comfortable environment that allows you to get a good wedding shot without trying. Not every shot has to be perfect, that is rarely the case for anyone. Instead of trying to be perfect, take some time to learn a few posing tricks before you head into your wedding day to put you at ease. We gathered six posing tips that can help you naturally look your best in your wedding photos!
Find Your Best Side
You don’t want to practice posing too much because that can get you set on specific poses. But, you should do a quick test run with a friend or on your own to try and find your most flattering side or angles. Take photos of yourself from a few different angles and decide what looks the best to you. This way when you start taking bridal portraits on your wedding day you can tell your photographer what your preferred angles are. You can also make sure to place yourself on your preferred side when posing with your partner.
Angle Your Body
When posing with your partner, don’t stand side by side with your body completely facing the camera. Turn your body so it is at a 45-degree angle, slightly facing your partner. This creates a more flattering angle that doesn’t fully display your body width. It also creates a more intimate pose between you and your partner that doesn’t feel stiff and allows for more natural interaction.
Stand Up Straight
Your posture can completely change the way you look and feel in photos. It’s natural to slouch when you start to feel uncomfortable or when you’re in action and aren’t aware of what you are doing. Try to stand up straight with your shoulders back and chest forward. This will give you more confidence and immediately flatter your frame more than slouched shoulders. But, don’t get too stiff — straighten your posture while taking a deep breath now and again to relax your body.
Relax Your Arms
Whether you chose a strapless wedding dress or not, many brides tend to hold their arms close to their torso. This kind of pose can cause your arms to look bigger and your shoulders broader. Instead, lift your arms away from your body for a more flattering look. If this is feeling too posed to you, just lift your arms slightly so they’re not pushed against your body and make sure your elbows aren’t pointing outwards.
Slow Down
In most cases, couples don’t have a lot of time to take wedding photos. But, trying to rush through the photos can often be the cause of unsatisfactory portraits. Take a minute to slow down whether you’re twirling or walking towards the camera and move at a slower pace than you normally would. It doesn’t have to completely slow down, but take one step at a time and be more aware of your partner. Walk back and forth a few times if you have to, you don’t have to get the perfect shot in one try.
Bend One Leg
You want to maintain your posture, but bend one knee while posing. Even though for most brides your gown is long enough that you won’t be able to see your legs, you don’t want to appear stiff. Having both of your legs straight won’t allow you to loosen up your frame as much. Posing with one bent knee will pop your hip a bit so your frame appears elongated and your hips narrower.
Your photographer will have an idea of what looks good on camera, but it’s always a smart idea to go into your photos with a sense of how to pose naturally. Make sure you have a few practice rounds so you can find out how you like yourself best on camera!
