Money Monday: How to Create A Lounge Space For Less
Adding a lounge space to your reception is a great way to bring personal elements into your reception decor. But, lounges don’t come cheap. Just one sofa can set you back $150, with a nice chair costing $75 and $50 for an end table. The rental prices alone can make you want to take a step back and move on to the next idea, especially when you consider having to put together a whole lounge and not just one piece of furniture. If you’re set on creating a chill space for your guests to hang out during the reception, there are a few ways you can significantly cut the costs of putting together a beautiful lounge space. We gathered three ways you can piece together lounge furniture for less by using readily available resources!
Use What’s Available
Your wedding venue will likely have furniture lying around that can be used for a lounge space. If you notice extra lounge chairs or end tables while walking through your venue, ask if it would be possible to rearrange the furniture into a lounge just for your reception. This would allow you to eliminate any extra furniture costs and instead you could bring in a few decorative pillows or flowers to liven up the space.
Bring Your Own
That beautiful lounge furniture you have in your backyard or the unused couch in your basement? Use it for your lounge to save yourself hundreds of dollars in rentals. Just make sure to clear it with your venue first in case they are opposed or have additional fees for bringing in outside furniture. You also want to evaluate the risk of any spilled drinks on the furniture you will be bringing back home after the wedding.
DIY Your Furniture
If you don’t have the budget to rent furniture, shop vintage instead! Head to a local garage or yard sale, scour Craigslist, or visit other second-hand stores to find furniture that you can refurbish for your lounge. Most items in these stores will be priced lower than if you were to rent the pieces and as a bonus, you can keep the furniture to use in your home after your wedding is over.
