4 Bridal Accessories That Can Complete Your Look
As the saying goes, less is more, but it can’t hurt to consider a few extra accessories!
Veils, shoes, jewelry, etc. are all bridal accessories that every bride immediately starts collecting after buying her wedding gown. But, what about a garter or reception clutch? The smaller details can often get lost in the frenzy that is building your bridal ensemble. It’s true that you don’t want to overload your wedding gown with every accessory that is available to you, but you should evaluate all of your options and pick the items that compliment your gown and decided bridal style the best. In some cases, that may mean choosing your own essential accessory rather than following traditional precedent. If you’re in the process of choosing your bridal accessories, here are four items you should consider!
Garter
Whether you decide to participate in a traditional garter toss at your wedding is completely up to you, but they are a great way to create a keepsake from your big day that you could potentially pass down. Hardly anyone will see this accessory, but it can be a personal touch you include for yourself. Use your garter as a way to incorporate family heirlooms into your look, like using a piece of your mother’s wedding veil in your garter or updating a garter that has been passed down in your family. You can also go for a more modern garter by incorporating embroidery or color. Just make sure to purchase a second garter if you decide to do the toss, that way you don’t have to give away your personalized one.
Sash or Belt
Glamourize your simple gown with a sash or belt! If you decided on a classic gown that has little to no embellishment, you can use a sash to bring a little sparkle to your look for the reception. It’s an easy and affordable way to transform your gown, allowing you to add a touch of color or play to your theme in your bridal ensemble. There are a ton of options to choose from, such as velvet ribbons for a more boho-chic look or a satin, crystal-adorned belt for a classic touch. Sashes and belts are also a great way to flatter your figure because they accentuate your waist if you’re looking to add some dimension to your gown silhouette.
Gloves
Bridal gloves are for the modern and vintage bride! They’re not a common bridal accessory for brides these days but can add something special to your bridal look. If you’re going for a more classic bridal style, a la Audrey Hepburn, opt for more traditional satin or lace gloves. For a more modern look, borrow a bit of inspiration from the bridal runway with tulle gloves or embellished gloves that include pearl or rhinestone details. Keep in mind that if you choose to wear gloves during your ceremony, you will need to remove them for the ring exchange, so you’ll want a pair that is easy to remove.
Purse
We love a good bridal clutch! Chances are you won’t be carrying this during the ceremony, although we are totally here for that if you do. You may need one for the reception to hold any makeup products, tissues, gum, etc. Simple, ivory clutches will do the job, but why not have a little fun with this accessory! You can opt for a personalized clutch that says bride, has your initials on it, or includes embellishments that are a nod to your wedding gown. If you want to be able to use this clutch post-wedding, pick or design one that you can use for an evening out as well as your wedding.
